Are you ok?

By Megan Minutillo

Are you ok?

Three little words that can change the course of someone’s day.

Are you ok?

If someone asked you that, what would you say? Would you tell them that you’re happy, and satisfied that life is perfect and you are bathed in unending joy?

Or would you pause for a moment, and look at them in the eyes.

Would you tell them that your heart is tired and your spirit feels broken and it takes all of your energy to put one foot in front of the other in the morning?

Or would you glaze over the moment, and redirect their gaze into your life, and put a mirror up so the conversation instead, turned towards theirs?

Are you ok?

I hope the answer you’re murmuring to yourself is “yes”. In fact, I hope it’s a shout.

But if it’s “no” I hope you’re surrounded by the type of people who hold that space for you.

Space to say whatever it is that you need to say.

Space to breathe, and cry, and laugh, and ponder, and wonder about the things that are coming your way.

Space to be or not be ok.

If I asked you right now,

“ARE YOU OK?”—- WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
